Proof of Synergy: Ministry of Health Visits SIG, Drives Strengthening of Testing and Quality Assurance for Medical Devices

Bogor, August 11 2026 – SIG once again welcomed a visit from the Directorate of Medical Device Surveillance, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, as part of the Quality Assurance Development Program for medical devices circulating in Indonesia. The visit, held at SIG’s facility in Bogor, was part of efforts to strengthen coordination and ensure that medical devices circulating in Indonesia meet applicable quality, safety, and performance requirements.

During the visit, the Directorate of Medical Device Surveillance, Ministry of Health, had the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of SIG’s laboratory capacity and capabilities as one of its partners in medical device testing. The visit also served as a platform to discuss developments in testing methods, various technical challenges, and opportunities to support evidence-based medical device surveillance with a focus on public protection.

As a laboratory supporting medical device testing, SIG has technical competencies, validated testing methods, and a quality management system that supports reliable testing processes for various medical device parameters, including absorbance, fluorescence, bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE), bioburden, biocompatibility, Bisphenol A (BPA), differential pressure, endotoxin, fumigant residues, microbiological cleanliness/bioburden, and sterility. These capabilities play an important role in generating testing data that can be used to evaluate product compliance with applicable requirements, as well as support the development of recommendations and follow-up actions for surveillance activities. The visit also strengthened synergy between the government and testing laboratories in supporting Indonesia’s medical device surveillance system. Through coordination and information exchange regarding laboratory capabilities and developments in testing methods, collaboration among stakeholders is expected to continue to improve in support of effective and scientifically evidence-based surveillance.
