Bogor, July 10, 2026 – In support of the transition to a green industry and the strengthening of national quality infrastructure, SIG reaffirmed its commitment by hosting a collaborative working visit from the National Standardization Agency (BSN) and Germany’s national metrology institute, the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), at the SIG laboratory.
This step is part of efforts to address the challenges of waste management and accelerate the development of an environmentally friendly supply chain in Indonesia. According to data from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), Indonesia generates tens of millions of metric tons of waste annually, of which approximately 18% is plastic waste*. Globally, international trade regulations are also increasingly tightening standards for sustainability and the eligibility of recycled-content packaging. In response, BSN, in collaboration with PTB Germany, has initiated a project to strengthen the Quality Infrastructure (QI) to support the implementation of the circular economy. The visit focused on exploring laboratory testing capabilities, particularly regarding plastic materials, eco-friendly packaging, and waste treatment technologies. Source
Through this collaboration, SIG is ready to support the technical readiness of testing laboratories to ensure that recycled packaging products and plastic materials meet Indonesian National Standards (SNI) as well as international quality standards. This includes testing for food safety (food-grade compatibility) in recycled packaging and analyzing the migration of hazardous substances. Through the integration of modern laboratory facilities, independent experts, and strategic cross-institutional collaboration, SIG is confident it can help accelerate the achievement of national circular economy targets, promote industrial supply chain efficiency, and provide maximum protection for consumers and the environment.
